The Fifth Seal: Martyrs

⁹When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw ^(A)underneath the ^(B)altar the ^(C)souls of those who had been killed ^(D)because of the word of God, and because of the ^(E)testimony which they had maintained; ¹⁰and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “^(F)How long, O ^[a]^(G)Lord, ^(H)holy and true, ^[b]will You refrain from ^(I)judging and avenging our blood on ^(J)those who live on the earth?” ¹¹And a ^(K)white robe was given to each of them; and they were told that they were to ^(L)rest for a little while longer, ^(M)until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters who were to be killed even as they had been, was ^(N)completed also.

The Sixth Seal: Terror

¹²And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great ^(O)earthquake; and the ^(P)sun became as black as ^(Q)sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; ¹³and ^(R)the stars of the sky fell to the earth, ^(S)as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. ¹⁴^(T)The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and ^(U)every mountain and island was removed from its place. ¹⁵Then ^(V)the kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶and they *^(W)said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the ^[c]sight of Him ^(X)who sits on the throne, and from the ^(Y)wrath of the Lamb; ¹⁷for ^(Z)the great day of Their wrath has come, and ^(AA)who is able to stand?”

An Interlude

7 After this I saw ^(AB)four angels standing at the ^(AC)four corners of the earth, holding back ^(AD)the four winds of the earth ^(AE)so that no wind would blow on the earth, or on the sea, or on any tree. ²And I saw another angel ascending ^(AF)from the rising of the sun, holding the ^(AG)seal of ^(AH)the living God; and he called out with a loud voice to the ^(AI)four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, ³saying, “^(AJ)Do not harm the earth, or the sea, or the trees until we have ^(AK)sealed the bond-servants of our God on their ^(AL)foreheads.”
